78th International Rice Festival Queen Allison "Ali" Hoffpauir

It was a gorgeous morning Saturday as the 78th International Rice Festival Queen was selected from a bevy of outstanding candidates to represent “The King and Queen of Grains” throughout the coming year.

Shannon Dietz was named the 2014 International Rice Festival Rice and Creole Cookery Contest Chef de Riz.

From left, it was a Redemptorist Catholic sweep when Cameron Stelly and Vivian Barrouse were crowned the Junior King and Queen of the 78th International Rice Festival. Stelly is the son of Kelly Stelly and the late Corey Stelly. Barousse is the daughter of Robby and Mandy Barousse.

The International Rice Festival has new junior royalty that reigned over the 2014 Children’s Parade and will continue to do so throughout the year. Shelly Godeaux and Antoinette Pete served as emcees for the event and joyfully greeted the eager family and friends on hand

Notre Dame Homecoming Queen named, events enjoyed

The Crowley Police Department has announced that the victim in Sunday's shooting died. ---Crowley Police are currently investigating a shooting incident which occurred shortly before 5 p.m. Sunday in the 600 block of West Seventh Street.

Schexnider reflects on mission trip to Malawi

Rotarian Kirk Schexnider, right, presented a program on his summer mission trip to Malawi at Tuesday’s meeting of the Rotary Club of Crowley. Thanking him for his presentation were, from left, program organizer Dr. Craig Brammer and President Mary Zaunbrecher.

CROWLEY – Just by listening to him speak on the subject, the past two mission trips Kirk Schexnider took to Malawi have been not only fruitful for the orphanage he visited, but himself as well.

MHS gym to be named for Briley

Clyde Briley addresses the board as the audience looks on, thanking them for the honor of having the Midland High School gymnasium named after him.

Monday night, at the Acadia Parish School Board’s October meeting, it was voted that Midland High School’s large gymnasium will be getting an official name: the John Clyde Briley Gym.
