Gov. Bobby Jindal has threatened to pull the plug on the Common Core academic standards if the Louisiana Legislature doesn’t choose to do so on its own.
Acadia Parish Sheriff Wayne Melancon has announced its participation in National Prescription Drug Take-Back Day, which is Saturday, April 26.
The Crowley Police Department has issued a Nixle alert on an ongoing scam in the area. According to the alert, calls are being placed to residents claiming electricity and/or gas will be cut off for non-payment.

Art Association promotes its youth activities

One thing is for certain, so long as they can, the Crowley Art Association is going to fight to keep giving children in the area a chance to learn about and create art.

4-H banquet recognizes outstanding members, volunteers and more

Not only recognized for her 40 years of service to the Acadia Parish 4-H program, but also announced as the 2014 4-H Hall of Fame inductee was Judia LaCombe, center. Presenting her the honor were 4-H agents Kayla Segura, left, and Megan Sarver, right.

Last week, outstanding 4-H members from across the parish were recognized as scholarships were awarded and volunteers were honored at the Acadia Parish 4-H Outstanding Members Banquet.

Crowley High’s Tyler Castille hands off to Jacq’co Price Monday during the 4 x 200 relay at the District 4-4A Track and Field Champioships hosted by Rayne High. Castille and Price teamed with Kirk Poullard and Bryston Domino to win the relay in a time of 1:30.22.
