William Karns, retired grocer

BATON ROUGE -- Services were Saturday for William G. Karns, former president of the La. Wholesale Grocers Assn. He died Feb. 11 at age 89.

Karns was a US Army veteran of the Battle of Bulge and president of Louis Levy Grocery Co. for 30 years.

HE was treasurer of First Baptist Church of many years, a recipient of the Kiwanis Club Hixon Award, and on the board of General Health Inc. and the Red Cross.

Survivors include a son.

Services were under direction of Rabenhorst.

Norman Sisson, DOTD counsel

BATON ROUGE -- Services will be Monday for Norman L. Sisson, former general counsel of the La. Dept. of Transportation and Development with 35 years of state service. He died Feb. 11 at age 86.

Sisson was a B-17 pilot veteran of World War II, holding two Distinguished Flying Crosses, the Purple Heart and the Air Medal with six Oak Leaf Clusters.

Recalled to active duty during the Korean War, he served as an engineer and test pilot for the development of combat jets and few B-47 bombers in the Strategic Air Command.

He was a central figure in the mid-20th Century development of highway and transportation law in Louisiana.

Survivors include his wife Margaret and two sons.

Arrangements are under direction of Greenoaks.

Lawrence Jacobs, educator

BREAUX BRIDGE -- Services will be Monday for Lawrence V. Jacobs, Jr. 77, former vice principal of Carver High and Breaux Bridge High and former principal of Carver. He died Feb. 10 at age 77.

He was also a member of the Board of Commissioners of Hospital Service Dist. No. 2 and president of the St. Martin Housing Authority.

Survivors include his wife, Melazie and two sons.

Arrangements are under direction of Pellerin of Breaux Bridge.
