Evan Hughes, radio legend

LAFAYETTE -- Services will be Friday for Evan Hughes, a legend in Acadiana radio broadcasting. He died April 6 at age 96.

Hughes, a World War II US Army veteran, was active in radio from 1947 until 1974. He was former general manager and co-owner of KVOL and of stations in Tennessee, Alabama and Georgia.

He accomplished many firsts in Louisiana radio broadcasting and held a number of professional awards.

Survivors include a number of nieces and nephews.

Services are under direction of Delhomme.

Dr. Okoye, ULL professor

LAFAYETTE -- Services will be Saturday for Dr. Christian Okoye, Sr., former head of the Dept. of Petroleum Engineering at ULL. He died March 19 at age 60.

A native of Nigeria, Okoye held offices in several professional organizations. He was a professor of petroleum engineering at ULL for 28 years.

Survivors include his wife Ifeyinwa, seven sons and a daughter.
