Marijuana and cash seized in traffic stop in Estherwood

Over a pound of marijuana along with $300 cash was discovered following a traffic stop in Estherwood Friday afternoon.
Estherwood Assistant Chief Paul Adams made the traffic stop for no inspection sticker. Once the subject stopped his vehicle, he fled on foot with a bag that allegedly contained the drugs and cash.
With officers assisting from the Acadia Parish Sheriffs Office along with Mermentau Police, Loney Simon of Jennings, 33, was arrested.
He was booked into the Acadia Parish Jail and charged with possession with intent to distribute marijuana, flight from an officer, possession of a controlled dangerous substance in a drug-free zone, obstruction of justice, and monies derived from drug transactions.
It was also reported that the driver had a switched license plate, no drivers license and no insurance.
