Youth Musical kicks off MLK Day activities
Crowley’s Martin Luther King Jr. celebration kicked off with a bang Sunday afternoon with the Annual Martin Luther King Jr. Youth Musical.
The event, put on each year by the National Association of University Women - Crowley Branch, was held at Jerusalem Baptist Church in Crowley.
This year’s theme was “The Urgency of Creating the Beloved Community.”
With everyone wearing masks and practicing social distancing, the event was well-attended in spite of the ongoing pandemic.
Daniel Roy, a youth member of Grace Bible Baptist Church, served as master of ceremony.
The musical began with all of those in attendance joining in “Lift Every Voice and Sing,” followed by the reading of selected scripture by Cambree McGee and a prayer by Christian Joseph, both youth members of Jerusalem Baptist Church.
Myrtle Cain, president of the NAUW - Crowley Branch, welcomed those in attendance.
Members of the Crowley Community Youth Connection paying tribute to Dr. King included:
• The Roy Family, Grace Bible Baptist Church;
• Camrin Robinson, Israelite Baptist Church;
• Livia Alex, Mt. Bethel Baptist Church - Breaux Bridge;
• Jerusalem Baptist Church Youth Ministry; and
• Tiara Winbush, First Church of God in Christ - Crowley.
