Funeral services will be held Friday, Feb. 21, at 10:30 a.m. at Gossen Funeral Home Chapel in Rayne for Cheryl Simpson Smith, 54, who died Monday, Feb. 17, 2020, at her residence in Rayne.
Interment will be in the St. Joseph Cemetery #2 Mausoleum in Rayne.
Deacon Denis LaCroix, with St. Joseph Catholic Church in Rayne, will conduct the funeral services.
Cheryl was employed at Acadia General Hospital (American Legion) in Crowley for 28 years. She was a loyal and dedicated employee who loved her job and waiting on her customers. She always had a smile on her face ready to greet and serve you. She will be greatly missed by her family, friends, and coworkers.
Survivors include her father, Charles Simpson and spouse Bonnie of Mire; brother, Timothy “Tim” Simpson of Rayne; sister, Sadie Simpson Richard and spouse Glen of Indian Bayou; godchild-nephew, Ryker Richard of Indain Bayou; half-sister, Bridget Simpson Poole and spouse Matt of Lafayette, and Bridget’s children, Brayden Poole, Charlie Poole, Jack Poole; numerous aunts, uncles and cousins.
She was preceded in death by husband, Jimmy “Bubba” Smith Jr.; mother, Margaret Meyer Simpson; longtime companion, Carl Thibodeaux; maternal grandparents, John K. Meyer and Anna Marie Habetz Meyer; paternal grandparents, Herbert Paul Simpson and Verna Mae Gilbert Simpson; and several relatives.
Pallbearers will be Tim Simpson, Glen Richard, James Meyer, Julian Simpson, Drew Zaunbrecher and Greg Richard.
Honorary pallbearer will be her godchild-nephew Ryker Richard.
A Rosary will be prayed Thursday, Feb. 20, at 7 p.m. in Gossen Funeral Home.
The family requests that visitation be observed in Gossen Funeral Home on Thursday, Feb. 20, from 2 p.m. to 9 p.m. and on Friday. Feb. 21, from 8 a.m. to 10:30 a.m.
