Gertrude Leger Thibodeaux

The family of Gertrude Leger Thibodeaux announces her passing on Feb. 21, 2019, at Southwind Nursing and Rehabilitation. She was surrounded by family and a group of very caring and compassionate individuals.
Born to Avelia Joseph Leger and Ida Hebert Leger on March 17, 1932, she was 86 years old. A private burial will be held at a later date at Hanks Cemetery in Morse.
Married to Sonny Thibodeaux, a career Navy veteran, she spent her younger years following him, with kids in tow, to his military assignments in Oklahoma, various points in California, Hawaii, and Florida. When her children were school age, she was active in PTO as a member and officer, a volunteer substitute teacher, adult 4-H leader, and “official” chaperone for school functions and band trips.
She was a member of Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in Morse, the Ladies Altar Society, and a former CCD teacher. For many years she hosted a weekly rosary in her home. Close friends and classmates gathered for recitation and reflection of the rosary, always followed by coffee and dessert.
She is survived by two daughters, Patrice Thibodeaux of Morse and Marie Thibodeaux and husband Tom of Spring, Texas; three grandsons, Chad Thibodeaux and wife Penny of Lake Charles, Brett Thibodeaux of Austin, Texas, and Tyler Thibodeaux of Spring, Texas; two great-grandchildren, Darren DeLuke and Mason Daniel, children of Chad and Penny; sister-in-law, Flora Leger of Sour Lake, Texas.
She is preceded in death by her parents, Avelia and Ida Hebert Leger; husband, DeLuke Arthur “Sonny” Thibodeaux Jr.; her son, Loren Luke Thibodeaux; two brothers, Loren Leger (infant) and Stanley J. Leger.
The family wishes to sincerely thank the following physicians for their exemplary care over so many years: Dr. Cason dela Houssaye, Dr. Thomas Casanova III, Dr. M.N. Katira, Dr. Joshua Mammen, Dr. Chad Vincent, Dr. George Smith, Dr. Charles Bowie, Dr. Mark Petijean, Dr. Robert Aertker and Dr. Satinder Saini. A special sentimental thank you to great-nephews, Dr. Dale Leleux and Dr. Todd Leleux, who always had extra time and love for their Aunt Gert.
Gratitude is also extended to Nurse Practitioners Melissa Breaux, Damon Broussard and Eli Salameh. They are all indeed a credit to their chosen professions and set a high standard for other to follow.
We are eternally indebted to the following nurses for their constant loving care, full commitment, and tender patience: Beth Simon, Mary Beth Melancon, Redessa LeBlanc, Keri Davy, Megan Duhon, Misty Jordan, Eve LeJeune, Amy Lovell, and the late Kathy Murrell. We also remember, with much fondness, the many aides who our mother became so attached to and developed loving relationships with. All of you were a steady presence in her life and she truly loved you, as she often referred to you as “her little girls”.
