ROBERTS COVE - Funeral services will be held on Friday, Feb. 15, 2019, at a 2 p.m. Mass of Christian Burial at St. Leo IV Catholic Church in Roberts Cove for Lawrence Joseph Habetz, 89, who died Tuesday, Feb. 12, at Encore Heath Care in Crowley surrounded by his loving family.
Interment will be in the St. Leo IV Cemetery in Roberts Cove.
Reverend Mario Romero will be the Celebrant of the Funeral Mass and will conduct the funeral services with Con-Celebrant Rev. Paul Broussard.
Mr. Lawrence married Marie Legnon on February 10, 1957, and share the same date of birth with her on December 27. They were the parents of five children, Hope, Brian, Fara, Joel and Larry. He was a native of Roberts Cove, and is the oldest of nine children. He attended and graduated from St. Michael High School. He was a veteran of the U.S. Army serving in the Korean Conflict. He was a charter member of the Knights of Columbus Council 5499, American Legion Lifetime member, also a three-term and member of the Board of Directors of the American Legion Hospital (Acadia General) in Crowley, past School Board member for St. Michael Elementary and Notre Dame High School. Lawrence was a member of St. Leo Church Parish Council for 30 years, Eucharistic Minister and church choir, charter member of the Roberts Cove Germanfest Association, and Germanfest Folk-Singers, co-chair of the Mardi Gras Fundraiser for the church parish, building committee for Germanfest Museum and building committee for St. Leo Church Annex. He was past owner and president of Habetz Roof Service and was the 2011-2012 Golden Frog Festival Royalty with his loving wife Marie Legnon Habetz.
Survivors include his wife of 62 years, Marie Legnon Habetz of Roberts Cove; daughter, Fara Habetz Boudreaux and spouse Ben Boudreaux of Rayne; two sons, Brian Habetz and spouse Josette Hoffpauir Habetz of Roberts Cove and Larry Habetz and spouse Sandy Breaux Habetz of Roberts Cove; son-in-law, Myron “Clark” Hoffpauir of Roberts Cove; daughter-in-law, Cindy Soileau Habetz of Carencro; 11 grandchildren, Joshua Hoffpauir and spouse Ashley, Zachary Hoffpauir and spouse Kim, Annie Boudreaux, Camille Boudreaux, John Lawrence Habetz, Luke Habetz, Blake Veazey, Hannah Veazey, Sara Habetz, Logan Habetz and Halle Habetz, five great-grandchildren, Hunter Hoffpauir, Noah Hoffpauir, Grace Hoffpauir, Mia Hoffpauir and Evan Hoffpauir; three sisters, Clementine Kirsch and spouse Huey, JoAnn Ledoux and spouse Freddie and Agnes Jones and spouse Mike; four brothers, Leonard Habetz and spouse Deanna, Bernard Habetz, Albert Habetz and spouse Brenda and Robert Habetz and spouse Pat; and numerous nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by a daughter, Hope Habetz Hoffpauir; a son, Joel Lawrence Habetz; his father, H. Joseph Habetz; his mother, Anna Cramer Habetz; a sister, Bernadine Habetz; and sister-in-law, Pat Molbert Habetz.
Pallbearers will be Brian Habetz, Larry Habetz, Myron “Clark” Hoffpauir, Ben Boudreaux, Joshua Hoffpauir and Zachary Hoffpauir. Honorary pallbearers will be John Lawrence Habetz, Luke Habetz, Blake Veazey, Logan Habetz, and his long time friend Raymond Hoffpauir.
A Rosary will be prayed Thursday, Feb. 14, at 6:30 p.m. in Gossen Funeral Home in Rayne.
The family has requested visitation be observed in Gossen Funeral Home in Rayne on Thursday Feb. 14, from 3 p.m. to 8 p.m. and on Friday, Feb. 15, from 9 a.m. to 1:30 p.m.
