Wolves run oevr Bobcats, 42-10

RAYNE - The Rayne High Wolves racked over 40 points and almost 400 offensive yards for their second win in as many games Friday evening with a 42-10 score over Eunice High School.
“We saw a close game at the start,” stated Rayne High Head Coach Curt Ware of Friday’s win over the Bobcats, “but, we collected ourselves and executed as the game continued.”
“Defensively, our guys had a good night,” Ware continued. “We limited them (Eunice) to short gains throughout the game which kept them out of the endzone.”
The Bobcats were limited to 193 total offensive yards, most of which came in the air.
“Our offense started kinda slow but picked up as the game progressed,” he stated. “We actually had about the same amount of plays as Eunice, but our guys broke loose for long runs.”
The Wolves hit the scoreboard in the first quarter with two scores for a quick 14-0 lead.
Trent Winbush continued his dominant running game with the first score of the night, a nine-yard TD up the middle. The extra point attempt was wide for an early 6-0 Rayne lead.
Off an interception by Trent Winbush, teammate Darien Harmon found the Wolf endzone for Rayne’s second score of the night, an eight-yard gainer. The extra point attempt ended up being a two-point conversion on a bobbled play, resulting on a Zach Fontenot scramble and pass in the endzone where he found Morgan Manuel.
Eunice began the second quarter with a long drive for their only touchdown of the ballgame, a TD run by Jaden Brasseaux and extra point by Austin Phillips.
Things got interesting the second half of the second quarter as the Bobcats ate up the clock on a long, 82-yard drive inside the red zone. But, the Wolves held on and forced Phillips to manuver a 33-yard fieldgoal. The halftime break saw the Wolves holding a slim 14-10 lead.
“Our guys came out in the second half ready,” Ware noted. “You could see the difference.”
The third quarter proved to be the determining factor in the ballgame as the Wolves touched the endzone three times, including a defensive score.
The third quarter opened with a Zach Fontenot interception of a Bobcat pass, setting up a 14-yard touchdown run by Darien Harmon. Morgan Manuel’s extra point was good for a 21-10 Rayne lead.
That lead was extended to 28-10 with a Trent Winbush 86-yard touchdown run and another Manuel extra point.
But, Eunice didn’t give up yet.
Bobcat quarterback Jaden Brasseaux completed a long pass to Josh Youngblood near the 35-yard line. However, that drive was short-lived. Rayne’s Canaan Olivier forced a fumble which was recovered by Wolf John Daigle, who ran in another Rayne touchdown. Manuel split the uprights again for a 35-10 Rayne lead as the last quarter began.
The final score of the game was a Johnny Deculit touchdown run and a Manuel extra point for the 42-10 finale.
“We struggled the first half, but our guys came out the second half ready to play,” continued Ware. “I hope our guys continue to improve and stay healthy.”
Trent Winbush led Rayne rushing once again with 149 yards on 14 carries while scoring two touchdowns.
Rayne High’s Darian Harmon had 122 rushing yards on seven carried with two touchdowns of his own.
Johnny Deculit returned this week with four carries for 17 yards and a touchdown.
Rounding out the Rayne offense were Darien Wilridge (2-11), Dio Marquez (2-5) and Isaiah Paul (2).
In addition to a couple pass completions, Wolf quarterback Darian Richard collected 83 rushing yards on 15 carries.
Marlon Foreman led Rayne tackled with four solos and two assists, joined by Jamarcus Monoe (3,4), Johnny Deculit (3,3), Beverly Guidry (2,5), Tyreece Beverly (1,3), Zach Fontenot (1,3), Antonio Gabriel (1,3), Tony Roberts (1,3), joined by Trent Winbush, Darien Harmon, Canaan Olivier and Ron Roberts.
The Wolves will travel to Erath for a Thursday game this week where they will meet the Eagles during a 7 p.m. contest.
