Ceremony marks Rec Dept. field upgrades

Ceremonial groundbreaking ceremonies were held Tuesday afternoon at Miller Field to mark the turfing and upgrades program underway there.
Crews from Sustainability Partners have been working on the fields for a couple of weeks with the two “big fields” — Miller and Heritage — slated to be ready to play by the beginning of 2021.
The $4.8 million project will include laying turf on all of the fields at the Recreation Department, upgrades to lights and fencing and increased parking.
City officials were joined by parish and state officials, representatives of Sustainability Partners and well-wishers for the ceremony.
“I want to thank all the people who worked behind the scenes to make this happen,” said Crowley Rec Director Peter Kirsch. “This is going to be huge for our children, for the Rec Department, for the City of Crowley and for Acadia Parish.
“This is going to impact the lives of our youth for years to come. There’s already a lot of history out here, but now we’re going to make new memories for our children.”
Kirsch pointed out that, when completed, the Crowley Rec fields will be incomparable to anything between Lake Charles and Broussard.
Mayor Tim Monceaux added thanks to all the council members, Rec Department employees and others who worked to make the program a reality.
