Crowley Behavioral Health Center services explained to Rotary Club

The Crowley Behavior Health Clinic is a member of the Acadiana Area Human Services District, one of five locations with the agency.
Cheryl Shelvin Lewis, Prevention Specialist, spoke to the Rotary Club of Crowley recently about the programs offered by the agency.
The mission of the Acadia Area Human Services District (AAHSD) is to increase public awareness of, and to provide access for individuals with behavioral health and developmental disabilities to integrated community-based services.
In the case of an adult with serious mental illness and/or an addictive disorder (alcohol, drugs, gambling), the Behavioral Health Adult Services provides comprehensive and coordinated outpatient services to eligible individuals
In an effort to support recovery, the following services are provided:
• Aftercare services;
• Crisis intervention;
• Drug screens;
• Education;
• Evaluation/Treatment for compulsive gambling;
• HIV/STD/TB services;
• Individual, group, and family therapy;
• Intensive outpatient treatment for substance abuse;
• Medication management;
• Peer support services;
• Psychological evaluations;
• Referral for detoxification;
• Referral to inpatient programs;
• Referral to residential care;
• Support groups; and
• Tobacco cessation therapy
However, for children age 6-17 that have emotional and/or behavioral disorders, including addictive disorders, the Behavior Health Children/Adolescent Services provides services including:
• Aftercare services;
• CART (crisis services);
• Case management;
• Community referrals;
• Crisis assessments and interventions;
• Flexible family fund;
• Individual and family therapy;
• Medication management;
• Prevention
• Psychiatric evaluations; and
• Psychosocial evaluations.
The clinicians utilize evidence-based interventions to assist and facilitate optimal functioning and quality of life for the children and families they serve.
It is the intention to make the application process friendly, informative and focused on meeting the patients needs and desires.
AAHSD is governed by a 10-member board made up of citizens from the seven-parish area, including Acadia, Evangeline, Iberia, Lafayette, St. Landry, St. Martin, and Vermillion.
AAHSD was created by the Louisiana State Legislature under provisions of the Louisiana revised statues (LSA-RS): R.S. 373 to provide administration, management and operation of behavioral health (addictive disorders and mental health) and developmental disabilities services to individuals in the seven parish area.
