Krystal J. Chevis
Free Social Security seminar on Thursday
A free seminar on Social Security will be held Thursday, Sept. 5, from 10 to 11 a.m. at the Acadia Parish Library in Crowley.
Krystal J. Chevis, financial representative, Western and Southern Life, will conduct the seminar.
“My main reason for doing this event is because many people are retiring and depending on Social Security to take care of them and all of their needs,” Chevis said. “People do not understand that Social Security is only meant to replace about 40 percent of your income at retirement.
“I am finding that many people are falling short and end up taking out loans, maxing out credit cards or relying on other members of the family. I want to teach individuals about the permanent cuts for withdrawing at age 62, the survivor and disability benefits that come with limits, and how to get your Social Security statement.
“There are other methods to supplement income and the more we know, the earlier we can act and the better decisions we can make.”
