THE POST-SIGNAL / Steve Bandy
Stephen Duplechin, a member of the Gulf Coast Tractor & Engine Association, recently planted corn using antique implements at the field across from the Acadia Parish Tourist Information Center. The demonstration garnered lots of attention from passers-by who stopped to watch Duplechin and his Belgian draft horses, Mable and Billy, cultivate the earth. To accomplish the task, Duplechin used a harrow, plow, and planter, all horse drawn. Some of the implements were passed down through his family. He said he’d been doing this since 1998. He uses the horses and tools to plant a variety of crops at his home.
