Musical prowess on display in Fiddle, Accordion Contests

Before most festival-goers had fully recovered from their Friday night revelry, contestants in the International Rice Festival’s Fiddle and Accordion Contests were tuning up behind the Cramer Equipment and Supply Sound Stage Saturday morning.
The event was sponsored by Falcon Rice Mill/Cajun Country Rice, the Accordion Shop and City Bar. Delo Hebert, Acadia Parish School Board member, and Russell Henry were emcees.
The contests annually recognize winners in three divisions — fiddle and youth and adult accordion.
Fiddle
Two contestants participated in the Fiddle Contest.
Each played two selections — one waltz and one two-step — for a panel of judges hidden from view.
Winners were Jamie Beeard, first place; Steve Riley, second place and Daisy Hoffpauir, third place.
Youth Accordion
Three contestants participated in the Youth Accordion Contest and they were each fierce competitors.
Winning first place was Burke Riley, second Jace Goulas and third Dolsy Riley.
Adult Accordion
The Adult Accordion Contest had five competitors.
After each played the required waltz and two-step, winners were Jamie Beard, first place; Bryce Esthay, second place and Adrian Brasseaux, third place.
Also competing were Brandon Broussard and Tyler Rayon.
