P.J. monitoring coronavirus situation

President: ‘Best practice is precaution’

The Acadia Parish Police Jury is monitoring the ongoing situation in regards to the COVID-19 (coronavirus), according to President Chance Henry.
“We have been in regular contact with the Governor’s Office of Homeland Security and Preparedness (GOHSP) as well as our regional Office of Homeland Security and the Acadia Parish Office of Emergency Preparedness,” Henry said in a statement released Friday. “The situation is rapidly changing and we are all working together to ensure the health and safety of Acadia Parish residents.”
Henry noted that, as of noon Friday, there have been no confirmed cases within Acadia Parish. “However,” he added, “the best practice is precaution. Please heed the guidelines of the CDC — frequent hand washing with warm soap and water, alcohol-based hand sanitizer, and staying home if you don’t feel well.”
Parish officials are asking that local businesses consider putting up signage that encourages preventative measures. More information and flyers to print out can be found at
“Additionally, please reiterate to your employees the importance of staying home if they are sick,” Henry said.
Henry and Secretary-Treasurer Bryan Borill said they have taken steps with the police jury staff to ensure that the office continues to function with as little interruption as possible while still keeping health and safety top of mind.
“In the near future, the parish may be taking the necessary steps to cancel certain events to help prevent the potential spread of the virus,” Henry said. “We will provide updates as soon as we have any additional information.
“In closing, we want the public to know that we are monitoring this situation closely and there is no cause for panic. Preparation and precaution are key to keeping our community and our families safe — fortunately, we have both.
