Joseph “JP” Percy Venable

MIRE - Funeral services will be held on Thursday, Oct. 12, at an 11 a.m. Mass of Christian Burial at Assumption of the Blessed Virgin Mary Catholic Church in Mire for Joseph “JP” Percy Venable, 88, who died Monday, Oct. 9, 2017, at Our Lady of Lourdes Hospital in Lafayette.
Interment will be in the Assumption of the Blessed Virgin Mary Cemetery in Mire.
Rev. Joseph O. Breaux, will be the celebrant of the Funeral Mass and will conduct the funeral services.
JP formerly lived in Lafayette but resided in Rayne for the last several years. He was a master carpenter who loved to cook for his family and friends. He was an honorary employee of Doug Ashy Building Materials in Rayne and spent every morning making fresh coffee and enjoying round table conversations.
He deeply loved his family and was always willing to lend a helping hand.
He is survived by his grandson, Chris Comeaux and wife Eva; granddaughter Monica Carriere; daughter, Janice Cart; nephews, Mike Venable, Dale Venable, Barry Venable and Glenn Venable; niece, Tina Howard; and six grandchildren, Haley Richard, Whitney Comeaux, Wyatt Comeaux, Kelsey Comeaux, Grace Comeaux and Zoe Carriere.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Charlotte Venable; parents, Armenod Venable and Clorice Latiolais Venable; two brothers, RB Venable and Harry Venable; and sister, Roberta “Nanny” Venable.
Pallbearers will be Chris Comeaux, Wyatt Comeaux, Dale Venable, Barry Venable, Danny Melancon and Tommy Daigle.
Honorary pallbearer will be Mike Venable.
A Rosary was prayed Wednesday, Oct. 11, at 6 p.m. in Gossen Funeral Home in Rayne.
The family requested that visitation be observed in Gossen Funeral Home on Wednesday, Oct. 11, from 3 p.m. to 9 p.m., and on Thursday, Oct. 12, from 8 a.m. to 10:30 a.m.

Katherine Lognion Dupuis

RAYNE - Funeral services were held on Saturday, Oct. 7, at a 11 a.m. Mass of Christian Burial at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Rayne for Katherine Lognion Dupuis, 70, who died Wednesday Oct. 4, 2017, in Heart Hospital in Lafayette.
Interment will be in the St. Joseph Cemetery #2 Mausoleum in Rayne.
Rev. Kevin Bordelon, pastor of St. Joseph Catholic Church in Rayne, was the celebrant of the Funeral Mass and conducted the funeral services.
Survivors include her husband, Frannie Dupuis of Rayne; daughter, Bridget Dupuis Huval and husband Todd of Rayne; son, Carl Wayne Dupuis of Rayne; two grandchildren, Brittany Guidry and Brandon Guidry, both of Rayne; two sisters, Bernice Lognion Dupuis of Beaumont, Texas, and Margret Lognion Baione and husband Rico of Beaumont Texas; and two brothers-in-law, Gerald D’Augereau and Johnny Faulk, both of Beaumont, Texas.
She was preceded in death by her father, Eloi Lognion; mother, Hilda Comeaux Lognion; three sisters, Rena Lognion Hanks and husband Ted, Betty Lognion D’Augereau and Jeanette Lognion Faulk; and brother, Glen Lognion.
A Rosary was prayed Friday, Oct. 6, at 7 p.m. in Gossen Funeral Home in Rayne.
The family requested that visitation be observed in Gossen Funeral Home on Friday Oct. 6, from 10 a.m. to 10 p.m. and on Saturday, Oct. 7, from 8 a.m. to 10:30 a.m.

Wilson John Guidry

RAYNE - A Mass of Christian Burial for Wilson John Guidry, 90, of Rayne, was celebrated on Monday, Oct. 9, at 10:30 a.m. in St. Joseph Catholic Church in Rayne.
Father Christopher Cambre, associate pastor of St. Joseph Catholic Church, served as celebrant. Entombment with military honors followed in St. Joseph Catholic Cemetery No. 2 Mausoleum in Rayne.
Visitation began on Sunday, Oct. 8, from 10 a.m. until 10 p.m. in Gossen Funeral Home of Rayne with a rosary being recited at 7 p.m. Visitation continued on Monday from 8 a.m. until 10 a.m. in the funeral home.
Mr. Guidry passed away on Wednesday, Oct. 4, 2017, in a Rayne health care facility.
A native and lifelong resident of Acadia Parish, Mr. Guidry was a faithful member of St. Joseph Catholic Church.
As a member of The Greatest Generation, Mr. Guidry enlisted in the U.S. Navy during World War II at age 18. He served in the Pacific Theater of Operations, and was awarded the Philippine Liberation Medal, Asiatic Pacific Medal, and the Victory Ribbon. He was a former member of American Legion Post 77.
Following the war, Mr. Guidry worked at Prevost Brothers Lumber Yard and Benoit Lumber Yard for many years. He later worked with his son at Charles Guidry Cabinetry Co.
Mr. Guidry enjoyed gardening and woodworking, but his greatest joy was caring for and spending time with his family.
Survivors include his wife of 71 years, Letie Arceneaux Guidry of Rayne; son, Charles W. Guidry and wife Sepha of Roberts Cove; daughters, Charlotte A. Champagne and husband Cecil of Nederland, Texas, Debbie M. Prejean and husband Kenneth of Oak Ridge, North Carolina, and Debra L. Barousse and husband Blake of Hoover, Alabama; daughter-in-law, Yvonne Gossen Guidry of Rayne; 16 grandchildren; 44 great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandchild on the way. He is also survived by a host of other relatives and friends.
Preceding Mr. Guidry in death were his parents, Ulysse Guidry and Adolphenia Callier Guidry; son, Michael J. Guidry; sister, Mildred Guidry; and brother, Lloyd Guidry.
Serving as pallbearers were Charles Guidry, Kenneth Prejean, Matt Guidry, Blake Barousse, Svend Svendson and Brian Guidry.
Readers for the Mass were Ben Prejean and Monica Smith; serving as giftbearers were Johnny Guidry and Kristie Niemoeller.

Mary Ann Lawrence James

RAYNE - A Mass of Christian Burial for Mary Ann Lawrence James, 61, of Rayne will be celebrated on Saturday, Oct. 14, at 10:30 a.m. in Our Mother of Mercy Catholic Church in Rayne.
Interment will follow in Our Mother of Mercy Catholic Cemetery in Rayne.
Visitation will be held on Saturday, Oct. 14, from 7 a.m. until 10 a.m. in Gossen Funeral Home of Rayne.
Mrs. James passed away on Thursday, Oct. 5, 2017, in Camelot Place.
Survivors include her husband of 39 years, Hardy James of Rayne; daughters, Glenetta James and husband Edgar Nelson of Rayne, Glowanna Francis and husband Barry of Rayne, and Paultrice James and fiance Marcus Frazier of Rayne; sons, Gastone Lawrence of Rayne and Gilbert James of Rayne; a host of step-children; special daughters-in-law, Alehia Jordan and Crystal Douga; special friend, Sadie Duhon; sisters, Marie Collins of Houston, Texas, Earnistine Yoakum and husband Gerald Singleton of Lake Charles, Elaine Lawrence of Lafayette, and Sylvia Bates of Lafayette; brother, Melvin Lawrence of Crowley; 11 grandchildren; and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives, and friends.
Preceding Mrs. James in death were her parents, Paul Harry Lawrence and Mary Lucille Handy Lawrence; sisters,Anniejean Wilkins, Brenda Lawrence, and Constance Evans; and brothers, Gilbert Lawrence, Anthony Lawrence, Joseph Lawrence, Edmond Lawrence, and David Lawrence.

Joey Dean Fox

Funeral Services will be held for Joey Dean Fox, 59, on Wednesday, Oct. 11, 2017, at 2 p.m. in the Duhon Funeral Home-Crowley Chapel with Rev. Roger Mire officiating. Visitation will begin in the Duhon Funeral Home-Crowley Chapel on Tuesday, Oct. 10, 2017, from 10 a.m. until 10 p.m., with the Recitation of the Holy Rosary at 6:30 p.m., and will resume on Wednesday at 8 a.m. until just prior to the service time. Interment will be at a later date. Mr. Fox passed away on Saturday, Oct. 7, 2017.
Mr. Fox is survived by his daughters, Heather Lynn Romero and her fiance’ Shannon Desormeaux of Rayne and Elise Marie Hanks and her husband Tyler of Rayne; grandsons, Schoen and Trevor Desormeaux; granddogs, Zoey and Gwyn; sisters, Sue Ann Hollie and her husband T.J. of Iota, Jacqueline Simon of Amite and Tanya Cormier Lewis and her husband Mike of Simpson; brothers, Mark Simon of Crowley and Herbert Fox Jr. of Crowley; goddaughter, Brandi Fox; as well as numerous nieces and nephews.
Mr. Fox’s family would like to express heartfelt thanks and sincere appreciation to the doctors, nurses and all other staff of St. Joseph Hospice for the care and compassion shown to Mr. Fox and his family during this difficult time.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Herbert Fox, Sr. and Esther Lou Abshire; maternal, grandparents, Ellis and Gladys Abshire; paternal grandparents, Harve Fox and Sarah Brandenburg Fox, and his godmother, Adeline “Nema” Trautman.
