Emile Eddy Daboval
Emile Eddy Daboval, born Feb. 9, 1928, in Rayne, quietly passed away on May 25, 2017, at the age of 89.
Beloved husband of the late Constance Fiorello Daboval; father of Ada Louise Daboval of Ocean Springs, Mississippi; son of the late Jane Vaughn Eddy Daboval and Emile “Milo” Daboval of Rayne; brother of Marguerite “Margo” Goertz of Houston, Texas, and formerly of Rayne.
He is also survived by many nieces, nephews and friends, Gina & Michael Bernhardt and family.
Emile was an avid fisherman and a longtime resident of Arabi, Louisiana. He retired from the United States Postal Service after many years of dedicated service.
A Funeral Mass will begin at 1 p.m. Monday, June 5, at St. Bernard Memorial Funeral Home.
He will be laid to rest in St. Bernard Memorial Gardens.

Bertha Lee Broussard Hanks
Funeral services will be held Friday, June 2, at 10 a.m. at Roberts Cove Church of Christ for Bertha Lee Broussard Hanks, 67, who died Wednesday, May 31, at her residence in Rayne.
Brother Jack Harris will be officiating for the services. The family requests visiting hours Thursday from 4:30 p.m. to 9 p.m. at the funeral home and Friday from 8 a.m. to service time at Roberts Cove Church of Christ in Roberts Cove. Burial will be in Kie Hebert Cemetery.
Mrs. Hanks is survived by her husband of 44 years, Autry D. Hanks of Rayne; three sons, Brandon Hanks and wife Amanda of Rayne, Jason Hanks and wife Nicole of Crowley and Lance Hanks and wife Chelsea of Estherwood; four sisters, Betty B. Woods and husband Dominique of Morse, Elaine B. Gaspard and husband Lawrence of Rayne, Mary Lou Broussard of Lake Charles and Shirley B. Murrell and husband John of Crowley; six brothers, Clifton Broussard and wife Theresa of Crowley, Alex Broussard and wife Shirlene of Lake Arthur, Paul Broussard, Ashton Broussard, Wesley Broussard and Johnny Broussard, all of Crowley; seven grandchildren, Ridge Hanks and wife Callie of Crowley, Matthew Hanks of Rayne, Alexis Hanks of Crowley, Jasmine Hanks of Crowley and Alaya Hanks, Raleigha Hanks and Daylon Hanks, all of Estherwood; and one great-grandchild, Roman Hanks of Crowley.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Upton and Marie Quebodeaux Broussard; and one sister, Irene Broussard Henry.

Eldora D. Givens
Funeral services will be held Saturday, June 3, at 10 a.m. at Greater Mt. Zion Missionary Baptist Church for Career Educator, Eldora D. Givens, age 89, who passed away on Tuesday May 30, 2017, at Lafayette General Medical Center.
Services will be conducted by Rev. Keith Matthews.
Interment will be in West Crowley Cemetery.
Eldora D. Givens was a Crowley native, graduating from Crowley Industrial High School. She earned a bachelor’s degree in education from Southern University and a master’s degree in education from the University of Michigan. She also earned an additional teaching certificate from McNeese State University. She was a biology and physics professor at Grambling State University as well as a mathematics teacher at Ross High School and Crowley High School until she retired.
She was a member of Order Eastern Star, Sigma Gamma Rho Sorority, Inc., American Legion Post # 506, NAUW, as well as a civil rights activist participating in marches in both Washington, D.C., and New York.
Eldora is survived by her son, Roy B. Givens Jr. (Monshita); her grandchildren, Thaddeus B. Jones, Chantel P. Douglas, Doraian L. Givens and Gabreail V. Givens; one sister-in-law, Arkey Duncan; and a host of nieces, nephews and other relatives.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Roy B. Givens Sr.; her parents, Louis and Ethel Pete Duncan; her sisters, Helen D. Keyes and Laura Duncan; as well as her brothers, Hiram Duncan Sr. and Lucius Duncan.

Janice Lopez
Memorial services will be held on Friday, June 2, at a 6:30 p.m. service at Gossen Funeral Home Chapel in Rayne for Janice Lopez, 54, who died Wednesday May 31, 2017, at her residence in Rayne.
Pastor Melvin Finley of Abundant Life Assembly of God will conduct the memorial services.
Survivors include two daughters, Jade Hornsby and Jamie Lopez; two sons, Kevin Lopez and Paul Clement all of Rayne; father, Paul “Austin” Lopez of Rayne; sister, Cynthia Lopez Gautreaux of Church Point; brother, Justin Lopez of Indian Bayou; and four grandchildren, Haylen Lopez, Madison Thibodeaux, Pearl Lopez and Jacelynn Lopez, all of Rayne.
She was preceded in death by her mother, Maryline Thibodeaux Lopez.
The family requested visitation be observed in Gossen Funeral Home on Friday June 2, from 3 p.m. to 6:30 p.m.

Bertha S. Faulk
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Monday, June 5, at 10 a.m. at St. Michael’s Catholic Church in Crowley for Bertha S. Faulk, 96, who passed away on Wednesday, May 31, 2017, at 7:25 p.m. at Encore Nursing Home in Crowley.
Fr. Michael DeBlanc, associate pastor of St. Michael’s Catholic Church, in Crowley will be officiating for the services. Burial will be in Arceneaux Cemetery in Rayne.
The family has requested the visitation to be held on Sunday, June 4, at 11 a.m. until 9 p.m. in the Duhon Funeral Home Chapel in Crowley. A Rosary will be recited on Sunday, June 4, at 6 o’clock in the evening in the Funeral Home Chapel. Visitation will resume on Monday, June 5, at 8 a.m. until time of services.
Survivors include one brother, Jean and wife Margie Seaux of Crowley; three grandchildren, Pam Broussard of Rayne, Trina Bonin of Mire and Carlos and wife Gloria Miller of Mermentau; five great-grandchildren and 10 great-great-grandchildren.
Ms. Faulk was preceded in death by her husband, Vincent Faulk; one daughter, Earline Stelly; one son, Henry Wilton Miller; her parents, Henry and Louise C. Seaux; seven brothers, Clopha Seaux, Abbie Seaux, Claby Seaux, Leo Seaux, J.B. Seaux, Lyman Seaux and one infant brother; and three sisters, Ella Lantier, Evlla Cormier and Beulah Winn.
Ms. Bertha was the Rice Festival Senior Queen in 1993.

Hazel Richard Baronet Patin
Graveside committal services for Hazel Richard Baronet Patin, 89, of Rayne, will be held on Saturday, June 3, at 1 p.m. in St. Joseph Catholic Cemetery No. 1, Rayne.
Deacon Barry LeBlanc will officiate.
Inurnment will follow in St. Joseph Catholic Cemetery No. 1.
Mrs. Patin passed away on Monday, May 29, 2017, in Rayne.
Mrs. Patin worked for the phone company for many years in Rayne and in Houston, Texas. She retired as an account manager while working in Houston.
She was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church.
Survivors include her husband, Randy Patin of Lafayette; sons, Barry Baronet and wife Sharon of Houston, Texas, and Jory Baronet and wife Jane of Fort Myers, Florida; brothers, Lucien Richard Jr. of Eunice, Donald Richard and wife Louella of Rayne, and Dudley Richard and wife Mary of Maurice; five grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren.
Preceding Mrs. Patin in death were her parents, Lucien Richard Sr. and Alicia Leger Richard; son, Jack Baronet; daughter, Gwendolyn Baronet; sisters, Helen Brown, Yvonne Istre and Theresa Thibodeaux; and brothers, Wilton Richard, Ed Richard, and Elridge Richard.

Horace Joseph Foreman
Memorial services will be held on Monday, June 5, at a 2 p.m. Memorial Mass at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Rayne for Horace Joseph Foreman, 89, who died Wednesday May 31, 2017, at Rayne Guest Home.
Inurnment will be in the Leger Cemetery in Rayne.
Rev. Samuel Fontana, associate pastor of St. Joseph Catholic Church, will serve as the celebrant of the Memorial Mass and conduct the funeral services.
Survivors include his wife, Racy Theresa Guidry Foreman of Rayne; daughter, Linda Foreman Anson and husband Ross of Lafayette; son, Michael “Mike” Foreman and wife Melinda of Creole; eight grandchildren, Jody Doucet, Tod Foreman, Jenna Reeves, Jeremy Doucet, Tyson Foreman, Chad Baronet, Cory Baronet and Tyler Foreman; 22 great-grandchildren, seven great-great grandchildren; and two sisters, Lilly Foreman Thompson and husband Jerry of Ebenezer, and Enola Foreman Alleman of Lafayette.
He is preceded in death by a daughter, Sandra Foreman Hoffpauir; his parents, Wilson Foreman and Donatilde Abshire Foreman; and nine siblings.
Honorary pallbearers will be his eight grandchildren, Jody Doucet, Tod Foreman, Jenna Reeves, Jeremy Doucet, Tyson Foreman, Chad Baronet, Cory Baronet and Tyler Foreman.
A Rosary will be prayed Monday, June 5, at 1:30 p.m. in St. Joseph Catholic Church.

Karen Ann Sittig Dodd
Karen Ann Sittig Dodd, a much loved mother, sister, aunt and friend passed away on Wednesday, May 31, 2017, in the comfort of her home surrounded by her loving family and friends. She was 72. A Mass of Christian Burial will be Celebrated at 10 a.m. on Friday, June 2, at St. Lawrence Catholic Church in Mowata. Rite of Committal will follow in the Mt. Calvary Cemetery with Father Joseph Tran Celebrant.
Karen was a dedicated teacher for over 30 years. She enjoyed woodworking, being outdoors, fishing and working in her yard. But most of all she loved making memories with her family and friends. She will be sadly missed by all who knew and loved her especially her daughter, Brooke Michelle Dodd of Eunice; her brother, J.D. “Bunskie” Sittig, Jr. and wife Debra “Yogi” of Eunice; her three sisters, Linda Gail Sittig Hebert and husband Clyde Hebert Jr., Jeannie Sittig Francois and Karleen Sittig Landry, all of Eunice; as well as many nieces and nephews.
She is preceded in death by her parents, J. D. Sittig Sr. and Bernadine Frey Sittig.
At the request of the family, visitation will be held at Ardoin’s Funeral Home in Eunice on Thursday, June 1, from 3 p.m. until 9 p.m. and again on Friday, June 2, from 8 a.m. until time of services. A rosary will be recited at 7 p.m. Thursday evening.

Lady Wolves named among All-District softball selections
The Rayne High Lady Wolves completed the 2016-2017 softball season with enough wins for a place in the 4A State Playoffs at the No. 32 seed.
With that position, the Lady Wolves hit the road to Stonewall of the Shreveport area for first round action against the top-seed of 4A, North DeSoto who halted all hopes of scoring a Rayne upset.
For their efforts, a number of Lady Wolves were recognized for their efforts throughout the season when selections were announced during 3-4A All-District picks.
1st Team
At shortstop for the Lady Wolves was Trinity Axtell who was named 1st Team All-District shortstop. In addition to her collective glove work and fielding skills, she also posted a .462 batting average.
2nd Team
Six Rayne teammates were named during 2nd Team All-District selections, including Brittney Broussard, Madison Venable, Madalyn Dupont, Savanna LaCombe, Kennedie Bourgeois and Peyton Richard.
Broussard manned the catching position for the Lady Wolves, The one of two seniors posted a .231 batting average but vacuumed behind the plate for a productive senior campaigne.
Venable was named the 2nd Team All-District pitcher while posting a .298 batting average during her senior campaign.
At second base was Madalyn Dupont who tallied a .471 batting average who controlling the middle of the defensive field for the Lady Wolves.
LaCombe proved worthy at third base for the Lady Wolves as she covered the hot corner while posting a .433 batting average.
In the outfield for Rayne was Bourgeois who recorded a .385 batting average while defending centerfield.
Rounding our the Rayne second team selections is Richard as she was tabbed a utility player with a .915 fielding average.

Rayne High players named also selected during All-District picks are first baseman Tori Arceneaux and Jessi Cary in left field as honorable mention picks.
“I’m proud of the hard work these young aldies have put into this season,” stated Rayne High Head Coach Natalie Travasos. “Who we faced this year showed us what we have to focus on and improve for next season.”
