Warbell Guidry Mosley

RAYNE - Warbell Guidry Mosley, beloved mother, grandmother, great grandmother, sister, aunt and loving friend passed away peacefully on Friday, Aug. 11, 2017, at her home in Rayne.
She was born on Jan. 28, 1924, to the late Elzina and Cleophaus Guidry.
She was united in Holy Matrimony to the late James Dewey Mosley. Warbell was a life-long member of Our Mother of Mercy Catholic Church.
She was affectionately known as “Butsy” and “Aunt Jeanette” to everyone who loved her.
Warbell will forever be remembered for her genuine love for family as well as a praying and God fearing woman. She was our earthly angel and will now be our heavenly angel.
Warbell always had a welcoming and warm embrace for all who came into her presence.
Her legacy of Faith in God, compassion for others and kindness toward everyone will continue to flourish in her daughter, Judy (Anatole) Leday of Rayne; two sons, Wardell Mosley and Torey Leblanc, both of Rayne; two daughters-in-law, Mary Lou Mosley of Scott and Maveola Mosley of Houston, Texas; son-in-law, Eddie Young Sr. of Rayne; two brothers-in-law, Arthur Mosley of Texas City, Texas, and Lionel Mosley Sr. of Marina, California; two sisters-in-law, Flora Bell Mosley Dunbar and Betty Mosley Thomas both, of Galveston, Texas; 24 grandchildren, 21 great-grandchildren, and five great-great-grandchildren as well as a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Elzina and Cleophaus Guidy; her husband, James Dewey Mosley; three sons, Herbert Mosley, Charles Mosley and Lionel Mosley; one daughter, Ella Faye Mosley Young; seven sisters, Verlice Guidry, Agnes Perriday, Melba Jones, Gertie Mouton, Valentine Strauss, Theresa Senegal and Gloria Milson; two brothers, Joseph Guidry and Wallace Guidry.
Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Saturday, Aug. 19, at Our Mother of Mercy Catholic Church, 600 W. Jefferson Davis St., Rayne. Father Richard Wagner, SSJ, pastor, will officiate.
Interment will be in Our Mother of Mercy Cemetery.
Active pallbearers will include Torey Leblanc, Michael Price Jr., Falius Lewis Sr., Lionel Mosley Jr., John David Mosley, Christopher Mosley, Eddie Young Jr., Alondrea Young, Martin Bias and Anatole Leday Sr.
Honorary pallbearers will be Wardell Mosley, Eddie Young Sr., Arthur Mosley, Lionel Mosley Sr., Jonah Leblanc, Jonathan Leday, Craig Mosley, Wallace Young, Stanley Strauss Sr., Lorenzo O’Brien, James Mosley and Kelan Norman.
The family has requested that visitation be held Saturday, Aug. 19, from 78 a.m. until 10 a.m. at Syrie Funeral Home, 1417 E. Simcoe St., Lafayette.
The family’s heartfelt thanks go out to Our Lady of Lourdes Hospital and staff, Heart of Hospice, Fredia Eaglin, Tina Senegal and everyone else who showed support during her journey.

Laura M. Meaux

RAYNE - A Memorial Mass will be held Friday, Aug. 18, at 9:30 a.m. at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Langenfeld, Germany, for Laura M. Meaux, a resident of Monheim, Germany, and native of Louisiana, who died on Friday, Aug. 4, 2017, at the University Clinic of Cologne in Cologne, Germany.
Inurnment will be in Forest Cemetery in Monhein, Germany.
Friends are invited to attend a Memorial Mass honoring her life on Saturday, Aug. 26, at 10 a.m. at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Rayne. Concelebrating will be Rev. Kevin Bordelon, pastor, and Rev. Glenn Meaux. Serving will be Deacon Tommy Adams.
Laura was born May 16, 1931, in Algiers and moved to Rayne at the age of 7. A Sister of Mount Carmel for 24 years, she taught at Mount Carmel Catholic Schools in Abbeville, Lafayette, New Orleans and Paincourtville. She later moved to Germany, where she taught French and English in German high schools.
She was a member of the Lay Carmelites in Rayne and the Edith Stein Society in Germany. She was honored to read the English scriptures at the canonization of St. Teresa Benedicta of the Cross, O.C.D., also known as Edith Stein.
She is survived by a brother, Wilson Meaux Jr. and wife Rose of Rayne; a sister, Mary M. Nunez and husband F.C. of Estherwood; 10 nieces and nephews, 20 great-nieces and nephews; 13 great-great-nieces and nephews; and three godchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Wilson Meaux Sr. and Laura Arabie Meaux; two sisters, Delores and Marcella Meaux; infant twin brothers, Noah and Joseph Meaux; and two nephews, Greg Olivier and John Boulet.

Mona Kaye Henry LeBlanc

RAYNE - A Mass of Christian Burial for Mona Kaye Henry LeBlanc, 61, of Rayne, will be celebrated on Friday, Aug. 18, at 11 a.m. in St. Joseph Catholic Church in Rayne.
Father Christopher Cambre, associate pastor of St. Joseph Catholic Church, will serve as celebrant. Interment will follow in Our Lady of the Sacred Heart Catholic Cemetery No. 2 in Church Point.
Visitation will be held on Thursday, Aug. 17, from 10 a.m. until 10 p.m. in Gossen Funeral Home in Rayne, with a rosary being recited at 7 p.m. Visitation will continue on Friday from 8 a.m. until 10:30 a.m. in the funeral home.
Mona passed away on Monday, Aug. 14, 2017, in her Rayne residence.
A native of Church Point and longtime resident of Rayne, Mona was a faithful member of St. Joseph Catholic Church. She was a member of Rayne Les Amies.
Mona had a heart for children, and she poured her life into caring for them. She was a former owner and operator of Little Britches Academy. She loved visiting with friends and family, playing games, laughing out loud, and making others laugh.
She enjoyed gardening and growing flowers, but her greatest joy in life was spending time with and caring for her family. Mona will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved her.
Survivors include her husband of 11 years, Jude LeBlanc of Rayne; daughters, Andrea Paige Breaux Lormond and husband Greg of Rayne, Jamie Breaux Fonseca and husband Ashton of Covington, and Layna Breaux Thibodeaux and husband Jacob of Rayne; son, Scott Matthew Breaux and wife Ana Perez Breaux of Loganville, Georgia; mother, Vernice Marie Duplechain Gautreaux of Rayne; sister, Connie Henry Louviere and husband Randy of Crowley; brothers, Karl Henry and wife Susan of Rayne, and James Randy Henry and wife Soummala Lonnie of Lawrenceville, Georgia; grandchildren, Kylee Elkins, Kamryn Elkins, Layla Lormond, Brookelynn Thibodeaux, Collin Patrick Thibodeaux, Elizabeth Fonseca, Claire Fonseca, Owen Fonseca, Anthony Breaux, Piper Mankin and Evan Trimble; and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives, and friends.
Preceding Mona in death were her father, Remie Joseph Henry; and step-father, Floyd Gautreaux.
Serving as pallbearers are Kenny Credeur, Ryan Henry, Derek Henry, Ashton Fonseca, Jacob Thibodeaux, Greg Lormond, Kirt Credeur and Daniel Henry.
Named as honorary pallbearers are Scott Matthew Breaux, Karl Henry and James Randy Henry.
Lectors delivering the readings for the Mass are Veronica Bellon and Cherie Hidalgo. Mona’s grandchildren will serve as giftbearers.

Kerry Michael Menard

Lafayette – Funeral services for Kerry Michael Menard, 48, will be held Thursday Aug. 17, at 2 p.m. at Our Lady of Prompt Succor Catholic Church in Coteau, with Father Brian Harrington, pastor of Our Lady of Prompt Succor, officiating.
Visitation began Wednesday, Aug. 16, from 4 p.m. until 10 p.m. with a Rosary recited at 7:30 p.m., and continues Thursday, Aug. 17, from 8 a.m. until time of services.
Burial will follow in the church cemetery.
A native of Rayne and a resident of Coteau, Kerry loved playing the scrub board with many local bands, but most of all, he loved spending time with his family and friends camping and will always be remembered as the life of the party.
Survivors include his wife Genevieve Bourque Menard; two daughters Braylyn Menard and Brooke Louviere; his grandson, Liam Louviere; his parents Alex and Berna Doucet Menard; two brothers Keith and wife Toni Menard and his children, Leigh Ann, Ryan, and Brittany, Kevin and wife Dana Menard and his son Chase; his uncle Larry and wife Carolyn Menard; three brothers-in-law, Steve and wife Vanessa Bourque and their daughter Sydney, David and wife Vickie Bourque and their children Tyler and Kyle, and Mark Bourque and fiancé Jeannine Desormeaux and his children Justin and Jeremy.
Kerry was preceded in death by his maternal grandparents, Constant and Iris Doucet; and his paternal grandparents Lenis and Rita Menard; his father-in-law and mother-in-law, Felix and Ester Bourque.
Serving as pallbearers will be David Bourque, Steve Bourque, Mark Bourque, Keith Menard, Kevin Menard and Dalton Romero.
Honorary pallbearers will be Tyler, Kyle, Justin and Jeremy Bourque, Dale Menard and Nicholas Menard.

Ozite Theresa Biadeaux Daigle

RAYNE - Funeral services for Ozite Theresa Biadeaux Daigle, 90, of Rayne, were held on Saturday, Aug. 12, at 1:30 p.m. in Gossen Funeral Home Chapel.
Pastor Phillip Pimlock officiated. Interment followed in St. Joseph Catholic Cemetery No. 2 in Rayne.
Visitation was held on Saturday, Aug. 12, from 11 a.m. until 1:30 p.m. in Gossen Funeral Home in Rayne, with a rosary being recited at noon.
Mrs. Daigle passed away on Friday, Aug. 11, 2017, in her Rayne residence.
A native of Acadia Parish, Mrs. Daigle was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church. She worked for many years as a supervisor at the Rayne garment factory.
Survivors include her daughters, Anna Roy and husband Russell of Ridge, Linda Hoffpauir of Rayne, and Charlotte Champagne and husband Jimmy of Duson; 10 grandchildren; 22 great-grandchildren; 4 great-great-grandchildren; and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives, and friends.
Preceding Mrs. Daigle in death were her husband, Ferdinand Daigle; daughter, Marilyn Pizzolatto; son, Daniel Daigle; parents, Artelle Biadeaux and Josephine Alleman; sisters, Mary Bearb and Bertha Blanchard; and several half-brothers.
Serving as pallbearers were Ryan Roy, Hans Roy, Shane Roy, Landon Roy, Joe Del Duhon and Hayes Doucet.

Rayne High Alumni Softball Tourney this weekend

RAYNE - The Rayne High Alumni Softball Tournament will be held this weekend on Friday and Saturday, August 11-12, at Gossen Memorial Park in Rayne.
The Rayne High Athletic Booster Club is also looking for sponsors for the annual tournament. With a $50 donation, sponsors will have their name included on tournament shirts. All $100 sponsors will have their name included on tournament shirts and a sign on display during the tournament and other amenities. All proceeds will benefit Rayne High athletics.

A Homerun Derby for all RHS alumni will be held Saturday between 12-2 p.m.
Gates will open at 6 p.m. with a variety of concession for sale. Play will begin Friday evening at 7 p.m. at Gossen Memorial Park. Finals will be held Saturday at 6 p.m. for the younger division and 7 p.m. for wiser division.

Mandatory Hunter Ed Course offered in Rayne

The Rayne Lions Club and Acadiana Sportsmen’s League are joining forces to host a Hunter Education Course, now mandatory for young hunters of the state of Louisiana.
Persons born on or after September 1, 1969, must successfully complete a Hunter Education Course in order to hunt in the state of Louisiana.
The three-day course is slated for Tuesday-Thursday, Aug. 29-31, from 5:30-9 p.m. at the Firemen’s Hall, 316 South Adams Ave., Rayne.
The course and all materials will be provided at no charge, compliments of the Dept. of Wildlife and Fisheries and the Rayne Lion’s Club. Participants are invited to bring a highlighter to take notes.
Parents, please ensure your children are on time -- the course will begin promptly at 5:30 p.m., no exceptions. Participants must attend all days to complete the course.
The shooting portion of the course will be held off site.
Participants must attend all days/sessions and successfully complete the hunter education course in order to hunt in the state of Louisiana.
Hunter Education Courses are open to persons of all ages, but only those persons 10 years of age or older are eligible for certification. Upon successful completion of the course, students receive a Louisiana Hunter Education Certification Card that is recognized by all states and provinces that require hunter education.
Registration may be completed online at the Louisiana Department of Wildlife and Fisheries site at www.wlflouisiana.gov.
Registrants must be at least 10 years of age with the class size limited to 30 students.

Rayne volleyball, football seasons set to begin

RAYNE - With the commencement of a new school year comes about start of football and volleyball games.
With that start approaching, RHS Head Volleyball Coach Stephanie Garrett has announced the Lady Wolves’ schedule, set to begin Aug. 15th when they attend the Carencro High Jamboree.
The complete schedule of games and tournaments for their district play is shown on left.
Football Time
This year’s Wolves will be led by a number of returning seniors with the addition of some talented underclassmen for what is sure to be an exciting football season.
The Wolves will host Beau Chene on Thursday, Aug. 17, for a pre-season scrimmage at Wolf Stadium. Action begins at 5:30 p.m.
They will then host the 2017 Jamboree on Thursday, Aug. 24, at Wolf Stadium. Erath will face off against Crowley High, followed by the 8 p.m. contest when the Wolves will host Abbeville.
Season tickets for the 2017 football season will be available soon at Rayne High School as announced by head football coach Curt Ware.
Purchase price is $40 each which includes entrance to all home varsity games (excluding playoff games), reserved seating at Wolf Stadium, and a parking pass in the stadium parking lot.
Anyone interested in purchasing a tickets are advised to contact the front office at Rayne High School (334-3691). Tickets will go on sale Aug. 16 in time for the new football season.
The RHS Jamboree will be held Thursday, Aug. 24, at Wolf Stadium. Erath and Crowley will begin play at 6 p.m., followed by the Wolves hosting Abbeville at 8 p.m.
Rayne High’s regular season schedule begins Friday, Sept. 1, during a home game against Welsh. Kick-off is 7 p.m. at Wolf Stadium.

Rayne Frog Sox place at Zone Nationals

The Rayne Mustang All-Stars, better know as the Frog Sox, traveled to Tampa, Florida over the weekend (July 27-31) where they participated in the 2017 Zone National Tournament.
During their Thursday contest the Frog Sox defeated Hutto, Texas with a 10-0 shut out.
During Friday’s game, they defeated the San Antonio Prospects with a 11-10 come from behind win.
In quarterfinal action early Saturday the Frog Sox captured a 11-4 win over the Fort Worth Rebels.
Semi-final action saw the Frog Sox meet the San Antonio Tribe who handed Rayne their only loss of their all-star season with a 15-8 score and a third place finish.
Team members are Kainon Suiter, Connor Hebert, Isaac Russell, Mark Frederick, Kade Savoy, Quincy Alexander, Huntson Hebert, Parker Faust, William Gaitreaux, Austin Judice, Josh Hebert, Lon Paul Moody, along with coaches George Faust, Layne Suiter, Lon Moody and Randy Judice.
The Frog Sox qualified for the tournament by capturing first place during the Super Regional Tournament recently held in Erath.
Team members and coaches would like to thank the many volunteers and donors who contributed towards the team’s fundraisers.
